Department of Mechanical Engineering:

Profile

The Department of Mechanical Engineering has been started in July, 2014 for a 4-year full time undergraduate course B.Tech. in Mechanical Engineering with an annual intake of 60. The aim of the department is to impart excellent subject knowledge and technical expertise (citing various case studies, technical trainings and industrial visits) to the students belonging to the rural area. The Department recognizes that students have a wide variety of career objectives. Some students may intend to enter industry directly as trainee engineers, or some of them continue studies towards Master’s and PhD programs.
The programme has been specially tailored to meet the growing global requirements and focuses on upcoming manufacturing systems with a rigorous emphasis on automation and quality control.

Course curricula:

The course curriculum has been specially designed to meet the growing global requirements and focuses on upcoming manufacturing systems with a rigorous emphasis on automation and quality control. Current subjects like Manufacturing Technology, CAD/CAM, Control Engineering, Mechatronics etc. are highlights of the curriculum, besides ongoing advancements and computational product design and development to accept the face global competition.Student projects, industrial trainings and dissertation are major part of the curricula. Interdisciplinary subjects are also included so that the students can learn beyond their specialized courses.

Infrastructure:

The department has well-furnished and well-maintained lecture theaters. In addition to these, department is in the process of establishing the following department labs:

3. Engineering Materials Lab

4. Basic Simulation Lab (MATLAB programming language is to be taught to 3rd semester students for a full semester)

5. Mechanisms & Machines Lab

6. CAD & Computer Graphics Lab

7. Fluid Mechanics and Machinery Lab

8. Mechanical Measurement and Metrology Lab

9. Control Engineering Lab

10. Heat Transfer Lab

11. I.C. Engines & Refrigeration Lab

12. Vibration and Noise Control Lab

Besides these labs, a state of the art Mechanical Workshop is also being established which are as listed below: -

Courses offered:
Four years B.Tech. Degree in Mechanical Engineering with semester system is offered.

3% seats are reserved for the residents for the students of the villages Sathiala, Gagarbhana and Vadadpura.

Eligibility Criteria:

a) Senior Secondary Examination (12th Grade) with Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and English with at least 50% (45% for SC/ST) marks in aggregate.

b) Any other examination recognized equivalent thereto by GND University, Amritsar.

Admission Procedure:

Admission will be made on the basis of inter-se merit of aggregate marks scored in Physics, Chemistry, Maths and English of Senor Secondary Examination (12th Grade) with at least 50 % (45% marks for SC/ST). Fee (Approximate):  Rs. 56650/- (1st Sem.) and Rs. 40250/- (2nd Sem.)

Note: Special incentive of 30% reduction in Tuition Fee and Funds for students taking admission in 1st semester at Regional Campus, Sathiala w.e.f. Session 2017-18.
